This one was special…After Rufus Harris shared some of his music in his inimitable style, I was invited to the stage. Rufus asked me a few questions about my early musical influences, etc. I then began my performance set, sharing "A Child's Hymn" and "Your Sweet Love"' before Ann Strubler joined me on the stage to play with me on two more songs, "Celtic Canticle" and "I Will Wait for You". I was so thankful for the receptive audience, and now they were ready for the featured performer for the evening, Larry Hover, who performed his set of songs brilliantly! We were then treated to a last few songs from Rufus Harris, to complete the 4thFriday Concert for May, 2009. Here's a slide show of photos from the event you may enjoy.

Well, sometimes it pays to explore. For Richard and my anniversary, we slipped away for a long weekend to London, Ontario. Unbeknownst to me, Richard, (my erstwhile manager) found on the web an open mic concert in London, Ontario, on one of the days we were to be there on our getaway. So on this particular day, we found some folks at a small storefront, (Old East Studios), and signed up to do a few songs. We enjoyed listening to the performers, ranging from a threesome, singing original songs with 2 guitars, bass and harmonies, to a harmonica playing/singing man performing Willie Nelson… I was last, and had decided to do one of my favorite Beatles songs, In My Life, and 2 originals, Your Sweet Love, and Wish. It was a great audience, and by request did one more, ending with When It's All Been Said and Done, (Robin Mark). Apparently, the "folk roots" run deep in this neck of the woods, and it was fun to add this to our getaway!

“A Child’s Hymn” (1986)
This song came out of a quick skim through an old McGuffey’s Reader we had around the house. I came across a poem, with this title, and the sentiments it expressed seemed so simple and pure. I picked up my guitar, and as I contemplated the words, the melody came. While, of course, in the words it is a prayer, I think of it as a sort of “Mission Statement”, dependent upon God to make it happen. When life gets all-too-complicated, this song definitely helps me keep it in perspective.
